Madam,
I am directed to refer to your letter of 20 t h July, 1945, regarding your son, No.2223326 Sergeant Walter Perkins, Royal Air Force, and to express the Department's regret for the delay in replying, and to inform you that no further news concerning him or any member of the [deleted] aircraft [/deleted] [inserted] crew [/inserted] has been received since they were reported missing as the result of air operations on the night of 20th/21st March, 1945.
As soon as local conditions allow the Royal Air Force Missing Research and Enquiry Service will be established in order to pursue enquiries for all Air Force personnel reported missing and of whom no news has been received. However, in view of the magnitude of the task some time must necessarily elapse before complete information becomes available.
I am to extend to you the sincere sympathy of the Department in your continued anxiety and assure you that should any news be forthcoming you will be notified with the least possible delay.
