Madam,
I am directed to refer to your letter of 26th September, 1945, and to inform you, with regret, that no further news has been received of your husband, Sergeant R. H. G. Ellis.
It is regretted that the date of your husband’s burial is not yet known. The registration of the graves of those known to have lost their lives in enemy territory is carried out by the Graves Registration and Enquiry Service of the War Office but, unhappily, the magnitude of this task is such that a considerable time must elapse before all areas are covered and all investigations completed.
I am to assure you, however, that when details are received you will be notified immediately. Your change of address has been noted in the Department’s records.
I am, Madam,
Your obedient Servant,
[signature]
for Director of Personal Services.
Mrs. D. C. H. Ellis,

W.8.
