27th April, 1944.

Madam,
I am directed to refer to your letter of 13th April, 1944, and to inform you with regret that no further news has been received concerning your husband since the Departments letter of 31st January, 1944.
As there were, unhappily, no survivors among the crew of the Stirling aircraft in which your husband was air gunner, the circumstances under which the aircraft was lost are not known.
It is also anticipated that, as the first report from the International Red Cross Committee failed to include the date on which your husband was buried at Eindhoven-Woensel, there may be considerable delay before this information is received, but enquiries are continuing and should any news be received, you will be informed immediately.
Your husbands name, together with the names of his crew, has been included in Casualty Communique No. 384 and will appear in the ‘Times’ in approximately two weeks time.
I am again to express the profound sympathy of the Department with you, in your sad loss.
I am, Madam,
Your obedient Servant,
