Dear Mrs. Wareing,
Many thanks for your letter. I hope you are continuing to receive news of your husband. You must not worry if the postal situation from Germany becomes erratic, or even ceases altogether. This will be one of the first things to happen before Germany’s collapse.
In reply to your kind enquiries regarding my injuries, I [inserted] am [/inserted] not really injured in the military sense, but had the misfortune to develop tuberculosis while in Germany. This was sufficient to get me repatriated, but as I have to spend two years in hospital here it

seems that repatriation and freedom are not necessarily synonymous.
