Dear Joan,
I have received a letter from Wilf Penning saying you have heard from Bob & that he is hurt, but still far from being lost altogether.
Now that is grand news & we both feel cheered up again. What you must feel I can imagine.
I personally have been worried, but still had hope, because Bob seemed to always turn up sometime.
I did not write to you before, because I could not express myself, but Amy did. Now I can & wish to say we share your joy & if the news is true, I hope Bob won’t be long before he is with you again. We leave here Monday next & may here [sic] more news from [indecipherable word] or Scunthorpe before week end.

Hope to hear Bob not badly hurt & NOT a prisoner.
By Wilf’s letter he is now with our Army.
Also we shall soon be seeing him again.
Don’t forget to call when you do get him back. Any time you know you are welcome.
Shall try & call & see you when we come back.
We got Freda fixed up at Leeds College of Art. She did well in School Cert. 4 distinctions, 3 [indecipherable word] & 1 pass. This news we got yesterday. Also news about Bob yesterday, so I went and drank your health.
Best Love
