My Dearest Joan,
I received a letter from Mummie this morning and she told me that Bob had been posted as missing.
My dear I just know what kind of hell you are going through, no one can possibly understand how you feel except those that have had it happen to them.
Please believe me though Joan that if anyone can come through Bob will, he’s not the type to go down my dear. You know that he’s a dammed [sic] good pilot, and I’m sure he will soon be back with you again.
I’m feeling rather wretched today, I received the news about Bob this morning & then the paratroops [sic] have gone away, to jump on the Hun I expect. I’m not in love with Loopy but

one doesn’t like to think of them going over there.
The only thing left for me to say my dear is to pray to God that Bob will come back to you. I’ll remember you in my prayers.
God Bless you dear and don’t ever lose hope.
Always your dearest friend
