Officer Commanding,
No. 12 Squadron,
Royal Air Force,
Binbrook, Lincs.
6th August, 1941.

Dear Mrs Newton,
I was deeply grieved to send you the information that your husband is missing. He took off on an operational flight on the night 5th/6th August, but the aircraft in which he was flying as Air Gunner, failed to return.

Your husband is greatly missed in the Squadron, where he has always been much liked, and I can assure you from my own point of view as his Commanding Officer that I could always depend on him as being thoroughly reliable. His loss will be greatly felt.

I would like to express my deepest sympathy on behalf of the Officers and men of the Squadron, and whilst I have no desire to raise what may be a false hope, sincerely trust that we shall soon receive some favourable news of your husband and other members of the crew.

With regard to his personal effects, these are being despatched to the Royal Air Force Depository, Colnbrook, Slough, Bucks, and you will be hearing from them in due course.

Yours Sincerely

RH. Maw
Wing Commander,
Commanding,
No. 12 Squadron.

Mrs. M.E. Newton,
39A, Popes Grove Mansions,
Heath Road,
TWICKENHAM, MIDDX.
