WARSHIPS OFF DIEPPE
[photograph]
THE NAVY’S PART. – Two pictures illustrating part of the work done by the Royal Navy in the successful Combined Operations raid on Dieppe. The whole landing force crossed the Channel in naval vessels and transports and the guns of the warships lent invaluable aid to the party ashore. The upper picture is of warships off Dieppe and the lower shows landing-craft making use of a smoke screen when approaching the French shore.
OVER DIEPPE. – A photograph taken over Dieppe by R.A.F. Film Unit during the progress of the raid. Smoke can be seen arising from the beaches on which our troops landed. The big building on fire is the tobacco factory used by the Germans for military purposes, which was bombarded by naval units. The Casino is the large building near the coast towards the centre of the picture.
