Description

On an isolated hill against a red sky, four soldiers are aiming their guns, ready to execute four standing civilians. They are chained together by their wrists, whilst two other soldiers are holding each end of the chain. The civilian on the extreme right is holding a red banner.

Label reads “257”; signed by the author; caption reads “22 MARZO 1945, CERVIGNANO DEL FRIULI UD, PRADATTI, Paravano Derno, De Santi Giorgio Cappelletto Idilio, Antonio Federigo, fucilati per rappresaglia, per l’uccisione della famiglia Padovan”.

Caption translates as: “22 March 1945, Cervignano del Friuli (Udine province), Pradatti hamlet. Paravano Derno, De Santi Giorgio, Cappelletto Idilio, Antonio Federigo were shot as a reprisal for the killing of the Padovan family.”
