AXIS RESEARCH STATION DESTROYED

A striking night picture taken during the R.A.F. attack on Peenemunde Aircraft Research and Radiolocation Establishment on Aug. 17. Two bombers can be seen silhouetted against the glare of fires as they run over the target. Sir Archibald Sinclair, Secretary for Air, referred to the raids as “this shattering attack upon a difficult and important target.”
