Dear Mr and Mrs Madgett,
We were very touched by your kind letter to us. It was good of you.
Nothing yet has been heard of our John. I often think of Hedley. Both he and John went into the fire for their country, with true gallantry & each has helped to bring emancipation to the world in bondage.
Ever remembering – as you will always remember – praying that the God of all comfort may ever bless you both.
Yours sincerely
W. J. Coates
