Dear Mrs. Madgett,
This is to just to say how3 shocked I was to hear about your son Hedley.
It is very distressing for you & Mr. Madgett to get such tragic news just as he had won his D.F.M.
He was a brave boy & you will always have a very proud memory of him.
I hope fate will be kind to you & that there is still a hope he has survived.

Poor boys I think this bombing business is dreadful for them, and parents alike.
Please accept my deepest sympathy & do not give up hope.
