Dear Mrs Meredith,
Thank you so much for writing to me. I can’t tell you how disturbed I was to hear about Eddie and his crew. The news seems pretty definite that they did bale out.
I have just come to Warboys for a few days from the above address (to which I return on Tuesday), and I met a crew here that came from Eddie’s squadron. Apparently the pilot has returned to the squadron, and states that he definitely saw all the rest of the crew get out safely.

[page break]
Ought to have him back again in good time, as the Huns certainly seem to have packed up now, and P.O.Ws are coming back to this country in thousands.

With kind regards,
Yours very sincerely,
Jack Lane
