My dear Cheshire,
Of all the good news which has been coming in lately, to me personally and to all of us here in Avros, your Victoria Cross is some of the very best. If ever man deserved this highest of awards you do and it gives us the greatest satisfaction and pleasure to know that in some small way we have been associated with you in your great work through our Lancaster.
All here join me in sending you our warmest congratulations and best wishes.
Incidentally I would like to give you and I hope you will accept it, a silver model of the Lancaster. I am having it prepared and it will be ready in a few days time.
Hoping to see you soon.
Yours sincerely
