Dear David and Joyce
I have just got your cable and am very pleased and impressed at the news, & am very glad to hear that mother & child are both well. I hope father is in a like state. I should of course be delighted & honoured to be a godparent and only regret that I shall not be able to be present & pinch the child at the critical moment at the ceremony. I give you carte blanche in the matter of names, I did not think it was part of the job anyway. I only stipulate you see that all the correct fairies are invited, to prevent my having to straighten out any difficulties in the future.
I eagerly await the customary statistics, such as weight, number of teeth etc & whether the hereditary tendencies are Donaldsonian or Edwardian; in the meantime I will repair to Hamilton and pour a suitable libation. Thanks for the reply paid cable, but now you have so many liabilities remember that even L.A.C.s can afford cables themselves. Please let me know if you require soap or safety pins or anything else, I might even be a sergeant after Xmas & able to buy super safety pins worthy of her station in life. All the best to you both sorry all [indecipherable word]
Love Ian
