Dearest,
As you can imagine, we’ve been pretty busy getting settled in. Botting welcomed me like a long-lost brother, & generally smoothed my path as much as possible.
The Mess is quite comfortable, & I’m glad to see that due respect has been paid to my rank by giving me a room to myself!
We’ve been busy visiting the various sections & making ourselves known. The engineer is due back tomorrow so we shall soon start operating as a crew.
The only snag here, apparently, is that we don’t get [deleted] re [/deleted] any days off, but instead get 9 days [inserted] leave [/inserted] every six weeks.

If I can get a few hours to myself, I shall of course go to Spalford as quick as the Pram will carry me.
Until then, darling, I’m sending this brief note with all my love. Hope to see you very soon.
Harold.
P.S. Derek asks me to send you his regards!
