My darling mother
Thank you all at home so much for your very kind wishes of congratulations and you letter which arrived today.
Every thing [sic] went extremely well and it could not have [indecipherable] and a pleasanter trip. I am so sorry I have not answered your wire before but not until this moment I had been thinking I had done so. I now realise it was just imagination.
We are all extremely fit except that one or two of us have been caught out by the sun [symbol] the sea water and are [indecipherable] several blisters. I have just returned from a week end [sic] at Aboukir where I was staying with [indecipherable] [symbol] Jacqueline. I was simply marvellous and I was sorry I had to come back. [indecipherable] family are all very fit and full of enquires after you, [symbol] sends you his fondest love.
We are standing by to return home on Thursday depending on suitable weather reports. We hope to leave at 5am. and get to Hereford by about 7pm. that evening. All engines and aircraft were in wonderful condition and there has been nothing whatever to do to them but routine maintenance.
I shall be at Hereford for about a week before going on some leave.
That is very good of ross to arrange for my car in that way – I do hope they will make a sound job of it wherever it is done. All new when I see you in a few days time.
All my love Richard.
