Sergeant Charles Herbert WARNER – Flight Engineer 1801861
[underlined] 101 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve [/underlined]
[underlined] Charles Herbert Albert WARNER [/underlined] born 12 January 1923 at Myland Hall Bungalow, Colchester, Essex, the sixth of Ernest Joseph & Kate Louisa Warner's 10 children.
As at January 2018 three of Charlie's sibling are still alive – Joan, Dennis (my Father-in-Law) and Les.
Charlie's father, Ernest Joseph Warner, died 23 January 1943.
Charlie was killed when the Lancaster he was in (possibly JB128 coded SR V-2) was shot down on the night of 3/4 September 1943. One Crew member, Donald Flett, survived.
The letters from Wing Commander G A Cary Foster, dated 5 September 1943, and Rev C Bache, dated 7 September 1843, to Charlie's Mother and the letter to Mrs Wilkinson from Donald Flett, dated 8 July 1945, were found among the effects of Charlie's sister Dorothy (Mrs Wilkinson) after her death in 1999 – the photos referred to by Donald Flett were not found.
The photo of the Memorial 1939-1945 was taken at the church of St Mary The Virgin, Salcott-cum-Virley, Essex.
The other photo enclosed shows back row left to right, Stan Woods, Charlie Warner and Ken Wallace and the front row, Dennis Schofield and Horace Watkiss – these details were taken from the original photo the whereabouts of which is not known.
[underlined] Mrs Ann Warner 26 January 2018 [/underlined]
