WELBECK 1809
2nd Sept 1939.

This is not what Siegfried would call a ‘Happy Warrior’ letter because there are never was a less Happy Warrior than your William at the moment of going to press; but I would like to say how grateful I am to you and Pa for what
[page break]
has so far been (and very probably will continue) an [deleted]d[\deleted] absolutely perfect existence from my point of view and so much of which has given me something quite indestructible by war or anything else. Please give the enclosed to Pa, the watch is still going, (touch wood!)
love
David
