My darling Joan,
So pleased to receive your letter which was waiting for me today when we returned after spending a night at Carlisle, the weather closed in and we were diverted, must say we never know where we shall be next day.
Am so glad you all enjoyed the theatre the other night, makes a nice change for Mother and Dad, they dont go out much, you did'nt say what you saw but suppose it was a musical

judging by the description. I noticed that "Three in a family" has been filmed and will be released in London shortly, I wonder if its as good as the play?
I noticed the strain of writing in bed caused you to abandon the letter half way through, shall have to give you one of my wakey-wakey pills as we call them, they keep you awake for at least six hours after being taken, some bright lad suggested they would be ideal things to take on your honeymoon, what about [inserted] each [/inserted] taking one before going to bed? think it will be necessary? shall probably be told in the next letter that I've a wicked mind.
Shall probably ring Mother up tonight, I intended to last night

but as we did'nt get back here it was out of the question.
The station we landed at was'nt too bad, the food was excellent and we could’nt have come on a better night, they were opening the new bar, of course plenty of beer on the house we did very well.
I don't know if I mentioned that Rod had bought another car, its an Austin 7. 1934, quite modern compared with the other one, its only a two-seater but we get the three of us in, its a tight squeese [sic], we breath in and out in turn.
We went to an Ensa or rather a Canadian show, was a Dance Band, real American style, bags of brass & boogie-woogie, also half a

dozen nice young ladies who danced and crooned. The dancing was'nt too bad but the singing, it had to be heard to be believed.
Well darling, a fortnight today I hope to be with you at home, have'nt heard if Dad has done anything about the car, may get some gen tomorrow.
Cheerio for the moment, give my kind regards to Mother & Dad, take care of yourself, no cold's mind!
All the best,
Love
Jack
