Dearest Jean,
Well, having found out definately [sic] that we're not going on leave, I thought I had better break the news gently.
The train from Kings Cross did'nt come in until 5.55 and consequently was 20 minutes late leaving, however we had a good seat, first class and arrived at Newark at 9.10 just in time for a drink

before catching the bus at 9.45. Luckily the hut was nice and warm and it did'nt seem too grim.
We are on early parade at 7.50, far too early for me, in fact I did'nt think it was day-light as early as that?
How did things go down at Eastwoods? was Jean Welland placed on the missing list or did'nt they miss you?
Am afraid this won't be a long letter as I've got very little to write about, don't misunderstand me, I could fill pages but I

know you don't want to know that your voice sounds like the ripple of the stream etc etc or perhaps the babbling brook which goes on for ever only you might take a dim view of the latter quotation!
