My darling,
Was so pleased to receive your two letters, am glad to hear you and Mother had an enjoyable night at Wimbledon theatre, it makes a nice change for both of you, – but fancy sucking ice-cream cornets in the stalls thats not done in the best of circles, you’ll be eating fish and chips in the Tube

next.
So poor old Basil is a much married man, well don’t get ideas of ruling me with a rod of iron or I’ll sign on in the Air Force for another 7 years or grow a beard or something. I [deleted word] suppose Daphne has’nt settled on a prospective husband, by the way what happened to the other chap who lived at Claygate, the one much older than her, is he still on the list of possibles?
How is the wiring progressing? hope he is’nt making too much mess

am glad to hear you have managed to collect a few more odds and ends for the kitchen, I wish I was nearer home as they have dumped some large packing cases on the site for firewood, it really a shame to cut them up, they are 6 feet long by 3 feet wide and 2 feet in depth all nice wood about an 1” thick just what I want for the top of the coal cellar, its wicked the waste that goes on in the service, any manufacturer would

pay two or three pounds for a case.
I have’nt sent off my parcel of washing yet as Mother’s has’nt arrived and I need a clean vest to change, however expect it will arrive on Monday.
Things are quieter now we have moved some of the bods, we have another 250 to get rid of before we close down so this should take us a few days.
Well my darling, must finish now, am writing to Mother and Dad by this post.
Remember me to Mother & Dad, hope Mum is better,
All my love darling,
Jack
