CHRISTMAS – WALTHAM 1943
Where did the children come from?
In our world
Where the very young
And old
Have no part
It cheered the heart
To play with them on Christmas day
All the well loved games
And see
The glee
On glowing faces
When Santa appeared
(Complete with beard)
From a real aeroplane
To call each by name
With a present from the Christmas tree
The children's party was oh such fun
It made the drome
Seem more like home
Of the wartime feast
There was left not a bun
Nor a crumb
Where did the children come from?
We'll never know
But we were so sorry
To see them go
– – – – –
Our WAAF Officer
[symbol] Trying to bring Xmas cheer
To Waltham Station
That had suffered so much
The week before
From death, destruction and devastation
Planned a children's party
It was a privilege to be
Asked to take part in this
A real plane brought gifts and Father Christmas
Our sadness was lifted
By seeing the happiness on
The children's faces
[page break]
