The Waafs from our Station
Were invited to an American celebration
We were made to feel quite feminine
On this special occasion
When we were given a beautiful rose
With an elaborate pin
The huge Hanger
Where Liberators and Forts
Were usually housed
Was now crowded with men
‘Oh don’t tell me they’ll
Be chasing us again.
But no, they were standing
Row upon row
Gazing at the Band
The biggest Military Band
I had ever seen
Conducted by a bespectacled man
Smartly arrayed in Military dress
A small man, I guess
Not much bigger than me
The beat of the Band, its Hip HIP hop,
Made you want to dance and never stop
But nobody did, they stood and listened in awe
All the long night through
We felt privileged to stand [inserted] We felt privileged to stand [/inserted] and listen to
The wonderful [inserted] & [/inserted] famous Glen Miller Band.
