Dear Mr & Mrs Riding,
We were all very grieved at the club on Saturday evening to hear that your boy is missing, the committee and members wish you to know that their thoughts are with you during this anxious time you are passing through.
It may be a little consolation to you to know I was wounded and taken prisoner in the last war and Mrs Wall was 7 months before she knew what had happened to me so you must never give up because it takes quite a long time for any particulars to be sent from an enemy country to England. Mrs Wall and I know what it means to you, and so how hard it seems Keep your chins up and put your trust in God [deleted word] and everything will come right.
With kindest regards
Yours Sincerely
W Wall.
