Sir,

I am commanded by the Air Council to inform you that they have approved the appointment of the under-mentioned airman to commissioned rank as Pilot Officer on probation in the General Duties Branch, with effect from 30th August, 1941 under the conditions of Air Ministry Order A.366/40, as amended.

2. Memoranda dealing with uniform and outfit required, and the issue of pay, allowances, and outfit grant, together with a copy of the message from the Chief of the Air Staff to every officer, are enclosed. He should take immediate steps to obtain uniform and other necessaries in accordance with the particulars stated in the memorandum, and for this purpose an authority to purchase officer’s uniform, which he must produce to the tailor, is also enclosed.

3. Action should be taken to effect his discharge under paragraph 652 (14) of King’s Regulations and Air Council Instructions as from the day preceding appointment to commissioned rank and to dispose of his documents in accordance with paragraph 2117 (1) of those regulations.

4. Forms 1443 should be completed immediately he takes up duty as an officer and disposed of in accordance with standing instructions as early as possible.

5. A copy of this letter has been sent to the Air Officer-in-Charge of Records, Ruislip, and to the Commanding Officer of the airman’s unit, with the memoranda etc. mentioned in paragraph 2.
