Description

HS Rawlings grew up in London and on volunteering for the RAF he was accepted for pilot training. He was posted to RAF Tuddenham and so along with regular operations he also flew supplies and agents to France. He was burned when fire erupted in the cockpit and he was blown out of the aircraft. He lost an eye and injured his arm. He was taken prisoner and was sent to Stalag Luft 7. He was on the Long March and was liberated by the Americans from Luckenwalde. On return to the UK Archibald McIndoe operated on his eye.
