20.5.1944

My Dearet Mother, Your latest letter of January 23rd came at the beginning of the month. Please thank Mrs Everard for the pyjamas she has given us. They have not arrived yet but probably should do in the next parcel. The last one received was despatched from Rhodesia House in Jan. There was a good quota of chocolate (5½ lbs), vest & long underpants, stockings sox[sic] etc. If you can get one I should like a really heavy polo neck jersey for next winter as am pretty well resigned to being here for that long. I’m very sorry to hear of Dad nose[?] trouble recurring, and am hoping it doesn’t develop into anything serious. You don’t seem to be very concerned about it so I suppose there’s nothing to worry about really, but it doesn’t sound so good to me. No doubt Ingham & Browns people have heard from him by now as he is in Germany & probably at a Sergeants camp. Have you received any [deleted one word] confirmation of any promotion to F/LT. as yet? It should date as from about June last year. Had tea with Anthony on his 25TH Birthday. His roommates had “built” a cake for him out of millet – it was pretty good, at that. Love and good wishes to you all from your loving son Donald.
