I am directed to inform you that a sum of £18.12s.1d. as detailed hereunder is due to the Service Estate of your son.
Balance of pay and allowances £2. 15s. 2d.
Cash found amongst effects £6. 0s. 0d.
Service Post War Credits [underlined] £11. 9s. 6d. [/underlined]
£20. 4s. 8d.
[underlined] Less. [/underlined] Income Tax on service emoluments [underlined] £1.12s. 7d. [/underlined]

With regard to funeral expenses, I am to state that a grant of £11.0s.0d. is admissible from public funds from which must be deducted the sum of £8.18s.6d. expended by the Unit on the coffin etc., leaving a sum of £2.1s.6d. available towards the expenses defrayed by you. Under the Regimental Debts Act, 1893, however, in addition to this grant you are also entitled to be reimbursed from the Service Estate, the balance of the amount expended by you, leaving a sum of £4.18s.7d. in the Estate to be divided equally between you and Mrs. Bower in accordance with the English Law of Intestacy.
