Description

Four men on steps, two wearing white flying suits and two in coats one with hat. A further man wearing white flying suit stands at the bottom of the steps. Steps with Avro logo stand against the rear cabin door of an Avro Tudor. On the reverse 'Avro News Service 11.3.46, Issued by A.V. Roe & Co Ltd Manchester. Photo shows leading personalities snapped yesterday after the successful 1st flight of Great Britain's newest and largest airline. On the staircase left to right: Captain J Orrell, 2nd Pilot; Mr Roy Chadwick, Director and Chief Designer; Mr Bowers, Flight Engineer; Mr C E Fielding, Director of Production, and in front Mr S A Thorn, Chief Test Pilot. "I am very pleased with the way she performed" said Mr Chadwick after the flight'.
