My Dear Mother & Dad,
This will be the last letter I shall write before I come home on leave & it is to say thank you for your letter of congratulations written on Thursday.
I expect I shall travel home tomorrow. I do not know the times of the Saturday trains or if they are running as previously so it is impossible to say at what hour I shall arrive. Do not be too surprised if therefore, I fail to
[page break]
make it tomorrow & have to press on the next day.
I am not going to write much now because there is little I can say from here. This afternoon I shall do more ‘clearing’ so that when I return here after leave I shall be almost ready for posting.
So for now I will bid you a short au-revoir. We will do a spot of celebrating when I get home & I’ll bring my cheque book this time in case I run out of £££.
All my love & best wishes.
Douglas.
