ITALY INVADED BY THE EIGHTH ARMY
BRITISH AND CANADIANS LAND IN CALABRIA
STRONG SUPPORT FROM NAVY AND AIR FORCES
BRENNER PASS LINE CUT
British and Canadian troops of the Eighth Army have landed on the mainland of Italy in Calabria. The enemy refers to the landing as being on a large scale, and also reports the presence of British tanks.
The assault was escorted and supported by warships of the Royal Navy and by the allied air forces.
Heavy air attacks have been made on enemy communications, and at Bolzano the railway bridge carrying the line from the Brenner Pass has been hit and broken. Trento and Bologna were among other places which were attacked in strength.
