Baptismal entry from the cathedral of St. John in Warsaw

A written statement describing the christening of a child that took place in a family home in Warszawa. There had been a long delay as the Father had been away. The Godfather was Józef Piłsudski the Commander in chief of the Polish State. It is a photocopy of a ledger entry on page 6.

The name of the Mother is Stachiewicz Maryla. The surname is often written first, but with the God mother’s name it is written after the first name.

Działo się w Warszawie w Parafji Świętego Jana dnia piątego Stycznia tysiąc dziewięćset dziewiętnastego roku o godzinie piątej po południu. Stawiła się Maryla Jadwiga z Sawickich Stachiewicz, matka niźej wspomnionego dziecka, lat dwadzieścia sześć mając, zamieszkała w Warszawie przy ulicy Hypotecznej pod liczbą pięć tysięcy sześćset dwudziestą drugą zamieszkała w obecności : Józefa Piłsudskiego obywatela Komendanta Naczelnika Państwa Polskiego i Lecha Sawieckiego architekta, obydwóch pełnoletnich zamieszkałych w Warszawie i okazała nam dziecię płeć męskiej, urodzone w Warszawie w jej mieszkaniu w dniu dwudziestym pierwszym Maja tysiąc dziewięćset siedemnastego roku o godzinie piątej po południu do niej i jej meża Lucjana Stachiewicza. Podpułkownika wojska polskiego lat dwadzieścia wów mającego nieobecnego z powodu wyjazdu. Dziecięcie temu na Chrzcie Świetym odbyłym w dniu dzisiejszym w domu przez księdza Kanonika Jana [indecipherable word]nadano imiona Mieczysław Józef a rodzicami jego Chrzestnimi byli wyżej wspomniony Józef Piłsudski obywatel Komendant Naczelnik Państwa Polskiego i Aleksandra Sawicka. Spóznienie nastąpiło z powodu zajęć służbowych ojca. Akt ten po przeczytaniu przez nas i obecnych został podpisany.

This occurred in Warsaw in the parish of St John on the fifth day of January Nineteen hundred and nineteen at five o’clock in the afternoon. Presenting herself was Maryla Jadwiga Stachiewicz née Sawicka, the mother of the below mentioned child, being twenty-six years old, and residing in Warsaw near Hypoteczna Street at number five thousand six hundred and twenty two in the presence of: Józef Piłsudski citizen Commander in Chief of the Polish State and Lech Sawicki an architect, both adults living in Warsaw. She presented a male child born in Warsaw in her home on the twenty first of May nineteen seventeen at 5 o’clock in the afternoon, to her and her husband Lucjan Stachiewicz. A lieutenant Colonel aged twenty, not in attendance due to travel. The child was Christened in the home by Canon John [indecipherable]and given the names Mieczysław Józef, and his God parents were the aforementioned Józef Piłsudski citizen Commander in Chief of the Polish State and Aleksandra Sawicka, the delay being because of the father’s duties. This document was read by us and those present and was signed.
