Dear Mrs Madgett
It is with sad regret I write to let you know that my brother Warrant Officer Lucien Eccles was killed on active service on the 15th July 1944.
As your son Hedley, Bill Girdwood and my brother were great friends I thought you should know Lucien spoke about Hedley quite a lot. I also learned from Mrs Girdwood that Hedley has been missing since 5th August 1943

Yours Sincerely
Miss Marjorie Eccles
