19th January , 1940

My dear Chadwick,
Many thanks for your Christmas Card. We did not send out any this year as I was sent off by air in October to command out here and my wife followed six weeks later by sea after packing up the house, storing the furniture, etc.
I suppose you are very busy trying to design a machine which will do 400 m.p.h. and land at 50! You must be pleased with the work the Ansons are doing. We are both very well and liking India. I served here before, a long time ago.
