425 Squadron was a French Canadian squadron formed at RAF Dishforth in June 1942 with Wellingtons as part of 4 Group, transferring to the Canadian 6 Group in January 1943. From May to October 1943 the squadron was based in North Africa before returning to RAF Dishforth and re-joining 6 Group but now equipped with Halifaxes. It moved to RAF Tholthorpe in December 1943 from where it operated Halifaxes until its final operation before converting to Canadian-built Lancasters in May 1945 in time to return to Canada in June 1945.
