My Dearest Mother, This is a continuation of my last letter of same date. It doesn’t seem to matter when I write because there is nothing say really so I have to wait until the spirit really makes me & then write all my letters on the same day. Thank you for the advice to beware of the girl friends but there is no need for alarm – I don’t think so anyway, Miss Wills of Paignton is engaged to an army Lieut. But I salved my pride by breaking off [indecipherable word] negotiations with Miss Gilbert before she could do it to me. You seem to think that I am a bit of Don Juan in spite of what I said to the contrary. However I shall look after my money & believe me, to get home as soon as possible is what I want more than anything. Jack Ringlemead of Sly. has just returned from having his appendix out There is a P O W Hospital nearby with very good French surgeons who deal with any operations from this camp. It certainly looks as if there is a good chance of being home by Xmas for the fatted calf this year. Anthony & I are both fit Much love to you all dear mother from your loving son Donald
