My darling Mummy.
Thank you for your letter. I came 1 [underlined] st [/underlined] in Latin with 71 marks. You will be very sorry to hear that we are in quarantine for chicken pox. There is going to be a fair this Saturday [sic] on our big field. The days are simply flying. I am sending you the position of the class for the first 3 exams, the 4 [underlined] th [/underlined] exam has not been corrected yet. Last evening there was a [deleted] big [/deleted] fire down the cud and it lasted till [deleted] the [/deleted] about 12 o-clock to-day, then at half past 10 there was another fire wich [sic] stopped 10 yards from Miss Shelvetons house. I have got 9 of those nestles pictures and I am sending them inside this letter. What is the name of the girl collecting them..?.. It has been terribly hot to-day.

[page break]

I helped to put the fords fire out. The whole hillside was one man of Black. I am the [deleted] h [/deleted] leader of a patrol of Scouts. What kind of photos does your camera take? The days are going very fast, we have already been in school a month.
I am ending now with love from
your loving son
