Title

Letter from L J Goddard to A D Boldy

Description

Letter from L J Goddard, rector of St. Paul’s School, Jalapahar, to A D Boldy, the father of David and Stephen, two ex-pupils of the school. The letter is in response to a letter sent by Mr Boldy to the school, giving news of the two men, including the facts that David has been reported missing and Stephen is due to enter the forces shortly. Goddard is confident that Italy will be out of the war by the end of August 1943 and hopes that Germany will be beaten before the spring 1944.

FROM
L. J. GODDARD, M.A. (CANTAB.)
RECTOR.

9th August,1943.

Dear Mr Boldy,

How very kind of you to write so fully about your two boys. I am most grateful.

But I was very sorry to hear that David was reported missing in July of last year. This suspense must be awful for you and your wife. I do hope you may yet hear that he is alive and well. We shall remember you in our prayers.

And now Stephen’s turn has practically come. That will be further anxiety for you. However, I imagine you would not have them doing otherwise. Let us hope that the war will soon be over. Italy will be out of it by the end of this month, and my own feeling is that we shall have finished with Hitler before the Spring.

Perhaps you would write again once Stephen is definitely in the Forces. I shall always welcome further news. One of these days I hope I shall get another letter to say that David is alive and well.

With kindest regards to Mrs Boldy and yourself in which Mr Clarke and Mr Henson both join,

Yours sincerely,

[signature]

A.D.Boldy Esq.,
