Sir,
I am directed to inform you that confirmation of the information passed to you in the letter from this Department of the 17th February, has now been received.
A report which has been received from Royal Air Force authorities in Paris states that eight members of the crew in which your son was flying, (four whose names were given and four who had not been identified), were buried in the Cemetery at Manoir du Val, approximately 11 miles north-west of Neufchatel, Department of Seine Inferieure, France. As there were eight members in the crew of your son’s aircraft, it must be assumed that one of the four unknown was your son.
In view of this evidence, action has been taken to presume, for official purposes, that your son, Squadron Leader J. Foulsham, A.F.C., lost his life on the 20th July, 1944.
I am to express the sympathy of the Department with you in your great loss.
I am, Sir,
Your obedient Servant,
[signature]
for Director of Personal Services.
