INTERVIEW WITH SGT. AIR-GUNNER GEARY ….
QUESTION….. Where is your home, Sgt.?
ANSWER…… In GLASGOW, Scotland.
Q……. How long have you been in Canada?
A…….. About one month.
Q…….. What is the reason you have come to this country?
A……. To train as a Pilot.
Q…….. Have you been interest in flying very long?
A……. Yes, I was in the Auxiliary Air Force for eight years, and in the Royal Air Force since the start of the War.
[inserted] What is a.a.f. [/inserted]
Q……… I see you are [deleted] a [/deleted] wearing a Medal ribbon. What is that.
A……. It is the Distinguished Flying Medal.
Q…….. For what service did you receive it?
A…….. It was for a trip I made over Brest in July 1941.
Q…….. Was that on the two German Battleships Scharnhorst and Gneisnau?
A……. Yes, I was flying in a heavy-bomber as a rear-gunner when we were attacked by Messerschmidst [sic] 109s and I was fortunate enough to destroy 2 of them.
Q…….. When were you awarded the D.F.M?
A……. I was given an immediate award and later attended an investiture at Buckingham Palace in November 1941.
Q…….. Well, now, Sgt. you have come to Canada at a very nice season, We trust you will enjoy your stay here, and we want to assure you and the other R.A.F. boys with you that we are glad to [deleted] welcome you [/deleted] have you with us.
