Northern Airmen Honoured

Several Northerners appear in the list of Royal Air Force awards just issued. The D.F.C. goes to the following officers:-

Acting Squadron Leader John Clifford Day, of Hull, who has attacked targets in Germany and Italy, including Berlin, Hamburg, Nuremberg and Turin, with consistent success and perseverance.

Acting Squadron Leader Thomas Robinson King, of Leyburn, who has led his flight with great dash and bravery on five wing operations.

Flight Lieut. Neville Alan Mervyn-Smith, of Golcar, Huddersfield, over a long period has a consistently fine record of efficiency and devotion to duty.

Acting Flight Lieut. Stephen Raynor Dawson born at Hessle, Hull.
Flying Officer Kenneth Gill, of Leeds.
Flying Officer Leonard Kingman, of Pontefract.
Flight Lieut, Paul Silas Foster Walmsley, now living in East Yorkshire.

D.F.M.

The D.F.M. is awarded to:-
Flight Sergeant Thomas Cornelius Overend, of Barnsley.
Flight Sergeant J.W. Boynton, born at Hull and now living at Coniston, Hull.
Flight Sergeant G.H. Broadhead, of Leeds.
Flight Sergeant J. Dorrian, a Glasgow man now living in Harrogate

CIVAL AWARDS

The Imperial Service Medal is awarded to:-

LEEDS AIRMAN’S D.F.C.

Flying Officer Kenneth Gill (21), R.A.F., whose wife lives in Sycamore Avenue, Leeds, has been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.

He was employed formerly at the Yorkshire Fireclay Co., Leeds, and is an old boy of the College of Technology.

Gill has been in the R.A.F. 3 1/2 years and was commissioned last June.
