Dear F. Sgt Newton,
Thank you very much for your letter dated 17th April, 1942. I really must congratulate you on your escape and I only wish I could see you to hear first-hand details of what is probably a most interesting story.
I have written in the enclosed envelope to Wing Commander Gillman a short letter of recommendation in respect off your prospective commission and have, as you see, addressed it so that in the event of you having been posted, or at any rate, in the event of you having a new commanding officer by the time you receive this letter, you can still avail yourself of it.
I expect you will be having a fairly easy time of things these days, which is more than can be said of what the chaps are doing out here, where we are pretty well as much occupied one way or another as they were in the Battle of Britain.
