Dear Mum, Dad & Moira,

I have now finished my 12 hours course here, & very much regret to say that I did not go solo after all. I mucked up my landings. This means that my chances of continuing my training as a pilot are rather reduced, but I shall not know definately[sic] until I get to ACOC. at Manchester. Still I can’t do anything about it now, & I did get a good report from my instructor, saying I should make a good pilot. Whether this will help or not, I don’t know.

I could have got a leave from to-day, till to-morrow night, but I did not think it was worth while, as I should only have had about 12 hours at home, & the fare was 18/10d. I am coming home for 7 days on Thursday & should arrive about tea-time. I have to bring all my kit with me, so I shall probably have to get a taxi from the station.

As I said before, I should like to go to Weston with you, & I hope the weather

will be better than it is here at the moment.

John Fisher & Clem Fletcher have [indecipherable word]. In fact nearly half of the old flight have, or would have, had not the weather been so bad. It was the bad weather which put me off really. Other chaps waited for better weather but the instructor took me up in very blustery winds, which made good landings rather difficult, & I lost confidence a bit.

Well that is all for now. Hope you are all O.K. So until Thursday Cheerioh[sic]
Love Terry
