Germany.
Dear Effie
Been as there isn’t much doing I thought I’d sit down and drop you a few lines. I know that you look forward to hearing from me. Things are rather quiet just at present. The calm before the storm I’d imagine. Something is bound to happen soon. Just where and when no one knows and I guess thats [sic]

just as well. If we don’t know the chances are that he don’t. [sic] And its always the surprise that gets them. It quiet [sic] hard to keep everything a secret though when we are so close and can whip a couple of Recce planes over when its clear. but they make it awful hot for any plane that lurks over our lines.
My mail from Canada as been very good lately cigarettes have

been coming in just fine. I don’t know just when I’ll be getting my leave to England but I don’t think it will be untill [sic] May anyway. Well there is one thing the weather should be fine by then. How are Doug and the kiddies give them my best regards and tell Dough I’ll manage that pint with him yet. ha! ha! Well Effie I’ll say So-Long for now. I’ll write again soon.
