FUNERAL OF SERGEANT – OBSERVER.
SOUTHEND MAN’S DEATH.
The Funeral took place with full military honours, on Tuesday week, of Sergt.-Observer Henry (Harry) Redgrave, whose death, on active service, was recorded in these columns last week.
Sergt.-Observer Redgrave was very popular in the district, and enlisted in the R.A.F.V.R. in 1939. Educated at the Southend High School, he was a keen motor cyclist and was 29 years of age when he died. He had taken an important part in many operational flights over enemy territory and in recognition of his ability, he was made Bombing Leader and instructor.
His widow has received a letter from the Wing Commander of his Squadron in which the latter pays tribute to Sergt.-Observer Redgrave’s work. “He had not been with us for long, “the letter states, “but I was very impressed by his quiet and efficient manner. Hiss loss is one that can be ill-afforded by the Service and by the country.”
The chief mourners at the funeral were : Mrs. Redgrave (widow), Mrs M Redgrave (Mother), Mr. and Mrs F. Huntsmand and Sergt. and Mrs E. Cole. Floral tributes were sent by friends and fellow colleagues of deceased’s last and former squadrons.
Sert.-Oberver Redgrave leaves one daughter, Pamela, aged three.
