Description
Giovanni Ausilio Cappellini claims he helped, from September 1943 to April 1944, twenty-one allied prisoners of war, giving them food and clothes: Crooks (2620196), C Simmons (2616361), W Howard (913574), Jones (946866), J Littlewood (946895), J G Jarvie (153762), G Goodwin (4037272), E Wood (4974045), R Cowburn (4464732), F Wyman (6412131), A W Wright (4459146), P V R V Ryan (241944), F E Field (6209563), Cury (1599469), and Ilecchev (43899011). They hid in his sister’s house in the village of Vaso Comuna, near Montale (Pistoia). On 15 April 1944, they moved to Florence and were hosted by some Florentine families. For his efforts, he received 4000 lire and a certificate of thankfulness (number 81897-18216).
