LANCASTER BULLETIN NO. 2.
THE LANCASTERS FLEW THROUGH AN INFERNO OF BURSTING SHELLS IN DAYLIGHT OVER AUGSBURG.
ONE FLEW ON TO DROP ITS BOMBS WHILE ABLAZE BELOW THE STARBOARD WING. CLIMBING TO ESCAPE THE FIRE, ONE ENGINE FAILING, THE PILOT “FEATHERED” IT AND CARRIED ON. THOUGH BOTH REAR-TURRET PIPES WERE BROKEN, OIL POURING OUT, THE PLANE REELING MADLY IN EVASIVE ACTION, THE CREW WITH THE GREATEST GALLANTRY MANAGED TO EXTINGUISH THE SPREADING FLAMES.
THAT LANCASTER CAME HOME. YOU MAY WELL BE PROUD OF PILOT, CREW, AND YOUR LANCASTER.
