626 Squadron was formed from ā€˜Cā€™ Flight 12 Squadron at RAF Wickenby equipped with Lancasters in November 1943 as part of 1 Group. At the end of the war the squadron flew in Operation Manna, dropping food to the Dutch, Operation Exodus repatriating ex-prisoners of war and Operation Dodge repatriating service personnel from Italy.
