CHRISTMAS DAY 1944.
My dear Mum, Dad, and Joy, - its rather late to wish you the compliments, but my thoughts have been with you all, especially to-night, when instead of the Christmas Show we sat in our room and listened to the gramophone. [Indecipherable word] and Jean’s books have arrived and two Spanish novels. First [sic] time for a Xmas present. – thankyou. Today has been pretty busy, - I didn’t get back from the theatre until two a.m. this morning, (Jimmy & I were working on the lighting effects for the show) & we were up again at ten for breakfast & then down to the theatre ‘til lunch, & after lunch we gave a film show (Male Animal) until six. The show was to have gone on at ten tonight, but due to some misunderstanding we will not open until Boxing Day. [underlined] DEC 26 [/underlined] I am finish [sic] this
letter during the film show this morning, (I have had to splice the film four times, with home made instruments). On the whole I have had a happy Xmas & hope that you have also. Read Dads letter of Dec 10. & am thinking seriously about his suggestions as far as I know I’ll stick to the old firm if its worthwhile, but I want BSc [sic]. Love to all [underlined] John [/underlined]
